Jason FosterFirstly, I would like to thank you for taking this time to read this.
Most of you know who I am, but for some I may be a new face (or in this case a new name on a website) so I will introduce myself and tell you just who I am. I have been in the reptile hobby for nearly a decade now, but before I was serious about the reptile industry I was little more than addicted to the fish and aquarium industry. Some of you know me as the reptile and fish manager from Petland. At one point, I had 31 aquariums ranging in size from 25 gallons to 250 gallons. I was a national leading authority on aquarium plants and brackish water fishes. I served on the Fish and Aquarium Society Board for quite some time as well. Soon, my love for reptiles grew and as I acquired more and more species into my collection, I was quickly running out of room(as I am sure some of you can relate) and began to sell off the aquariums one by one to make more room. And let's be real here for one second and say that we all know that you can't just have ONE reptile...lol you will always be looking at and wanting more. So to that effect, I have to come clean and say that my personal collection comes in a 62 animals with 25 species represented. I have made monumental connections over the last decade and have the pleasure of being friends with many great industry leading breeders, vendors, distributors and wholesalers. From day one, I have always wanted to build a strong community and as such I moderate 8 of the largest reptile groups on facebook on a national level. I pretty much live my free time in these community groups helping answer questions and if I can't help I refer them to a trusted someone who can. I currently organize weekly group orders from these vendors and breeders for our reptile community here in Saskatoon as to use my connections to help people find the animals they want at the best quality and at much lower prices than retail averages. I have imported and exported reptiles to/from all over the globe and as such gained experience with the many official governmental offices and bodies that govern our industry(CFIA, CITES, FISH AND WILDLIFE) So we covered the reptile stuff, what makes me a good Secretary? My second hobby, which as founded my home based business, lends a great assistance to the position of Board Secretary. I currently run one of the province's leading web design and print media companies. EvolveAlready.ca provides our clients with some of the most creative and best print solutions in the country. We provide marketing campaigns and printed materials to 200 and some new clients every year and some of largest names in business and industry.( Ie. Potash Corp, The U of S, Speedy Glass.) We have designed some of the most recognizable logos in Saskatoon as well (Example: Parktown Hotel, Season's Restaurant, Argyle Clothing, Finn's Irish Pub). We also provide our clients with industry leading web design and web marketing solutions. Why did I mention all that? If you read the role responsibilities of the Board Secretary, you will see that they are tasked with designing all materials for expos, meetings, fliers, tip sheets, official documents and more. You will also note that they are responsible for running and designing, maintaining and updating the Society's website. In conclusion, I would like to say that I would love to serve on the board where I can further assist in building this community of passionate people, and strive to fight for the ever-needed changes in the industry. |
